December 6, Year 1 | The egg contained a Rowlet! This Pokemon is as-of-yet incredibly new to this region and so being able to train one is no small privilege. Considering its leafy appearance and the form it will one day take when it is fully evolved, I have elected to name it Mirkwood.
March 21, Year 1 | Despite now having passed the level at which he should have evolved a second time, Mirkwood stubbornly remains a Dartrix. I can only speculate as to why, though he has been somewhat immature and contrary ever since he evolved and so I might posit that he is stuck as something of the Pokemon equivalent to a teenager. I have no doubt he will evolve when he is ready, and in the meantime he is learning new attacks at an accelerated rate which is something I will not object to.
April 8, Year 1 | As I expected, Mirkwood evolved when he was ready. A recent celebration was cut short by a group of Pokemon thieves and in the process of aiding me in stopping them he became a Decidueye. I again look to my theory that experience is not simply a counter of energy taken in or expended, but rather tied in some way to a Pokemon's maturity in terms of personality. Now that he has evolved he acts far more adult; the real question becomes, then, did evolving cause his personality to mature or did maturing cause him to evolve?
May 1, Year 1 | As I mentioned in my notes on Claudia, today marks my first successful breeding attempt (and my first breeding attempt in general). Mirkwood proved to be a very attentive and almost fussy parent; he has been arranging and dusting the eggs as I attempt to find them homes. I think he may be worried about them looking presentable for their new trainers. How charming.
