[His voice goes a little more serious.]
Yes. Yes, I did.

[Jean still sounds a little angry about the whole thing.]
Well, I took all of them once it was over. They've been living with me since then, and they're starting to like people again. I mean, as much as Electrodes are going to.
[Which isn't much.]
Do you want one? Armin says you take really good care of your Pokemon, and these guys need someone who'll care about them and be patient when they act weird. They're not being bad balls, they've just had a hard time of it.
no subject
I would like one very much. I actually liberated a Gorebyss who was being held in the same base, for similar reasons. Whatever else they are, Pokemon are obviously sentient and in many cases highly intelligent. Such imprisonment is incredibly cruel.
[Especially when Pokemon are more than willing to do those kinds of jobs when asked nicely and treated with respect. Electrode power plenty of things for humans, but the difference is they get asked first. It's a job, not enslavement.]
And if it should act weird that won't trouble me much. I prefer my Pokemon weird when it comes right down to it.

[Which is largely useless so far but has been named Burrito and is enjoying life being a serving tray for the Electrode horde and their beverages.]
Okay, great!
[Jean sounds relieved, and smiles a little for the first time.]
They can be tricky to deal with sometimes, and I've been worried about finding them homes. A few would be better in the wild, but the ones that like people more should have trainers.
no subject
Do you have any advice? I haven't found any Pokemon too difficult to deal with as of yet but I've never dealt with an Electric type before.
no subject
Be nice to them, mostly. They want to be good Pokemon, but most people just hear about how they Self Destruct and treat them like criminals. Once you've bonded with one, it'll do anything for you.
[Much like certain rapscallion teenaged boys, but Jean isn't self-aware enough to realize the similarities.]
no subject
That I can certainly do. The very first Pokemon I caught on my own was a Pineco -- I disturbed her tree and she exploded. For a long time my entire strategy centered around that, actually. When applied at the right time and with the right direction a Self Destruct can be incredibly useful.
[Because throwing yourself into a battle to the point of destroying yourself just to bring your opponent down with you is very Ford. It may not be the best strategy but it appeals to the martyr complex he'll never entirely rid himself of.]
no subject
Self Destruct is great, isn't it? At the prom, when the Rockets were trying to steal Pokemon, one of my friend's flying Pokemon picked up Blitz and kept dropping him on their heads. When he was right above them, he'd self destruct, and then she'd grab him and bring him back to be revived. It was great!
[So great that Jean doesn't even realize he's just referred to Eren as a friend.]
no subject
[See like. A normal adult would probably have concerns about dropping an actual living bomb on people, but Stanford Pines is not a normal adult.]
no subject
[Okay, he's warming up to you, Nerd Grandpa.]
I usually don't like to use Self Destruct since it knocks him out afterwards, but when he had a rescue waiting for him, it worked out really well.
[Maybe Jean should get a flying Pokemon one of these days...]
no subject
Oh, yes. I find it works best as a last resort; I only ever have Titania use it when she's already in trouble and will likely find herself knocked out anyway. At the very least there's a good chance of taking her opponent down along with her.
[HEY IF HE NEEDS A FLYER BOY HOWDY DOES FORD HAVE SO MANY]
no subject
Exactly. It's pretty rare that Blitz finds anyone he can't roll right over, so he doesn't have to use it much these days.
What kind of Pokemon is Titania?
no subject
[He removes a Pokeball from his coat; the video screen gets an awful lot more crowded all of a sudden. As it turns out, Forretress also follows the 'orb with eyes' model.]
no subject
[Jean, too, is an aficionado of Orbs with Eyes, and he's delighted by Ford's Pokemon.]
She looks like an armored Voltorb!
[In other words, he wants one immediately.]
no subject
She does, doesn't she! Do you know that no one knows what a Forretress looks like inside of its armor? In all the time humans have been studying Pokemon it has never been observed.
no subject
[Some rustling, weird camera angles, and vague kissy noises later, and Jean is holding up a Mimikyu to show Ford.]
This is Spookycheeks. It says in the Pokedex that no one has ever seen what they look like under their disguises.
no subject
He remembers seeing one of those back when they first arrived and he was just as delighted then as he is now.]
It may very well be that they have no concrete form at all, being a spirit.
no subject
Maybe. [Jean reaches up to scratch her back so she'll calm down.] She feels solid enough when I touch her, though.
