My current theory is that humans are an invasive species or perhaps a species brought in purposefully from outside of this dimension which then settled and naturalized, so in light of that it would follow more logically that we named them by the sounds they make rather than the other way around.
Of course that all banks on an unproven theory meaning I can't say definitively that it is fact. I feel as though it does make marginally more sense than several hundred species all seamlessly adapting the name assigned to them by humans.
